St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, North Falmouth, MA, Prayer Shawl Ministry Gallery
May 19, 2011

Meetings begin with a blessing of the completed shawls by Father Arnie or Father David.

The ministry began meeting on January 20, 2011. We now have 30 members and growing. 15 to 20 members on average attend the meetings twice a month. Below is a brief description of the history of the ministry taken from the member packet:

Although prayer shawl has been around for centuries, the current trend of prayer shawl ministry was started in 1998 by two ladies who were graduates of the Hartford Seminary in CT. named Janet Bristow & Victoria Galo. It has spread far & wide, and many churches of all faiths have groups of knitters involved in the process. As with anything we do for another, both the giver, in the case the knitter, and the recipient, receives a benefit. As was said on the website, "the blessing is ripple from person to person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of a loving God."

Eileen O'Keefe was the inspiration behind of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Elizabeth Seton.
